COMMENTS ON STARBUCKS WEBSITE RE LADY GAGA PROMOTION

5/20/11 I SAW THIS ON STARBUCKS WEBSITE THIS MORNING AT STARBUCKS:
(I’m not posting this because I endorse her but FYI)

“…unlike anyone we’ve seen, imagine our delight when we learned that she’s also a big Starbucks fan. Well Ms. Gaga, we happen to like you quite a lot, too. So we’d be hard-pressed to let a cultural moment like this one – the May 23 global release of Lady Gaga’s new album, Born This Way – go by without a little something special.

On Monday there’ll be a Gaga takeover of the Starbucks Digital Network in partnership with Yahoo!, where we’ll be giving away a limited number of downloads for her new song “The Edge of Glory” to the first little monsters to claim them. And if one song isn’t enough to get your paws up, you can listen to the Special Edition of Born This Way all day. We’ll also be streaming an exclusive video of her singing an acapella rendition of “Born This Way.” To get on the Starbucks Digital Network, just get on our free Wi-Fi at participating stores and go to starbucks.yahoo.com.

And for those of you who love a good puzzle, you don’t have to wait for May 23. We’ve just launched a unique digital game called SRCH. Along with the thrill of the hunt, there are some pretty sweet prizes and Lady Gaga has a featured role. The game lasts from May 19 to June 7, and there’s no purchase necessary to play. To get started, scan the code below with a QR code reader. (Need a QR reader? Conveniently, the My Starbucks iPhone app has one embedded in it). Have fun and good luck!

Really? How much research do you perform on all companies you support to see if they all abide your “Christian Values”? Blacklisting one highly successful and competitive company because they support an artisit with a controversial song is not very Christian. Isn’t Love Thy Neighbor a foundation value? I don’t think it is Love Thy Neighbor unless they support something that is controversial to the church. But whatever…

this is not meant to be rude at all, but love does not mean to accept every action a person makes and love it. If someone thinks after seing the pic in the ad on the starbucks homepage that lady gaga is a good moral example for their children, whatever, that’s their choice..but if they have a problem with her behavior (which by the way that has nothing to do with loving someone or not) they can chose to not support this . It’s their right and their decision on where there money goes.

If you listen to any of lady gaga’s songs you’d understand her message. Yeah she is a bit out there, but she does it to get attention. hopefully people will be able to see past that innovativeness that can come off as inappropriateness, and see that she’s just a voice saying things that we all need to hear. PLUS Judas is not even really about Judas and Jesus. It’s about loving someone who hurts someone you love. DON’T BE A DRAG JUST BE A QUEEN!

Whine whine whine. Christians who whinge about their hurt sensibilities make it extremely tough for me to support Christianity anymore. You would do far better to examine why a song is controversial instead of making whiney protestations in an online forum. If you’re really upset, stop doing business with Starbucks instead of virtually clutching your pearls.

Being a Christian is not about being perfect, it’s about realizing that you’re not perfect and you’re happy because you know that Jesus died for your sins, it’s about respecting Jesus and the pain and suffering he undured, and for lady gaga to sing a song about judas is perverted and degrading but what can u expect from earthly, shallow individuals who are out for nothing but themselves, it’s all about her achieving fame and fortune, but she’ll fall eventually they all do.

I’ve always looked at “Judas” as her fighting with the good and bad in herself. It’s definitely like u said it’s a metaphor and she’s even said in an interview that she doesn’t see it as a religious statement but a social statement and that it wasn’t meant to be a biblical lesson. if you want 2 hear the interview here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND9dVCFfbrM

She would have done anything for him (washed his feet with her hair) but his tounge still lied through his brain and he betrayed her 3 times. Jesus is her virtue. I will drink coffee to that! OK flurry101 how did you know that the founders of religion betrayed Mary Magdalene one of Jesus’s prophets? Hmm probably not.. Yep they branded her a wh*re because she was probably a lover to Jesus and they probably got married and had children (let’s be honest the whole story about Jesus is pretty hard to believe) and so like Judas the founders of religion betrayed her. I will continue in several posts as this is a long rant.

I understand the controversy you may sense around “Judas” and it’s open to interpretation, but I see it as a song about loving someone who has betrayed you, and knowing that you shouldn’t, because they’re a bad person. Above all else, it’s an amazing pop song, which makes me just want to dance around and enjoy it! She’s so talented and inspirational – what one person sees as controversy another sees as artistic expression!

Secondly isn’t it possible that the reference could relate to how people follow Jesus yet they cannot let go of the skeletons in their closet because they are scared to (hence the lyrics Jesus is my virtue but Judas is the demon I cling to). Thirdly is it just another way of saying how is is in love with one person but lusts for another? Fourthly it is just a song it’s not like it is hurting anyone apart from people who have nothing better to do but slate it. Continued in one more post

Being someone who blatantly flaunts their religious beliefs, swinging them about like the business end of some righteous Morningstar, you probably also do not wear blended fabrics such as poly-cotton blends, since it is a sin to do so. Use of the natural world in an unnatural way (******, if you didn’t know,) is all sorts of sinful so let’s hope that there aren’t any factories burning coal or using unstable earth elements to provide your electricity. Christianity is absurd, imo.

Popular artist for the biggest fan base which had one song your religious fairy tale clashes with doesn’t mean you need to boycott. SB. You wont go to ”****” if you still visit and if you do then you need to find a god that isn’t so anal himself. Paganism is the first and only true religion by the way.

Sounds like there’s some excitement for the game and Lady Gaga music, but also some concern over the music choice. We recognize that Starbucks customers have diverse tastes and perspectives. In selecting music, we strive to represent the work of a variety of talented artists who reflect many viewpoints. We value your input and do not mean to offend any of you. We hope that you can enjoy some of the other music offerings at this time. Thanks for the feedback.

This game is not fun. In fact, it takes too long. I like scanning a QR and have instant satisfaction. Seems like a misuse of QR Code…

I am SO frustrated. The baristas at my Starbucks didn’t know anything about this promotion. When I finally figured it out on my own (45 minutes later), Twitter wasn’t working to get the clue. Too confusing, so frustrating. I am beyond disappointed.

It is confusing….but thankfully….someone here posted a clue. (I’m on here to find their posting and thank them). It does time take to figure out — so I hope this helps u for the next time. First — make sure you register (if u don’t have an iphone — go here: http://www.frappuccino.com/srch/register?facebookId=1391512974

When there — read the “terms and conditions” – it will tell you which websites u may need t0 access (such as today — it was “Shazam”) After registering – go to the clue page and flip over the first card/clue — today it was a Lady Gaga video and at the end she flipped her hand around — she was holding the “Shazam” symbol – which was a clue to visit that website. Once there, find the “Born this Way” video (she said words from her song on her clue)…so

….so that’s how you end up on Shazam. I searched both the song and the album (the iTunes preview clip doesn’t play for me — so not sure why). Anyway — at that point – I am lost. I wonder if after all today’s prizes were found if they didn’t remove the clue from the site. I wish they would say — so we’re not wasting time that we could be doing something useful. Anyway — I guess the other clues led back to the Starbucks blog about Lady Gaga today — where the game en

I personally cant stand Lady Gaga, and she’s certainly not a “lady”, she’s sick, twisted and perverted. Her song “Judas” proves what level she will stoop to in order to get attention. This is not the product of an “artist”, this is just a sick little girl dying for attention, and soaking up the fame and fortune…typical of today’s wanna be’s, but nevertheless I love starbucks and continue to enjoy my “coconut frappacuccino”

I second this. She reminds me of Medusa…look her in the face and you’ll turn to stone. And by stone, I mean “DUM”. Her message is not liberating. She’s advocating consumerism & destruction. There is absolutely NO TALENT to this woman. None. Josie and the Pussycats, the movie, spells it out: SUBLIMINAL MESSAGING brainwashes people into buying and ADORING today’s pop “artists”. You’ve been brainwashed by The Medusa. I Love Starbucks coffee, nonetheless. The

Have you listened to “Judas” ? It is all about how she knows she should follow Jesus (what is right) but she can’t fallout of love with the boyfriend that betrayed her so many times. She would have done anything for him (washed his feet with her hair) but his tounge still lied through his brain and he betrayed her 3 times. Jesus is her virtue. I will drink coffee to that! She is a christian that preaches that JESUS LOVES EVERYONE! Teaching love & acceptance is what all should he

I don’t appreciate Gaga’s music, but I do appreciate Starbucks as a company and its ability to provide fair trade coffee, provide insurance to even part time workers, and its consistent behavior of helping the community out. Why is there so much controversy? No one is twisting anyone’s arm to go to starbucks, so don’t go if you don’t like the new music. This comment chain is not a good representation of Christianity, it’s a good representation of legalism. Pick your battle

Ah alright. If I’m not allowed to post this I guess they’ll delete it. But here it goes! In the clip Lady GaGa recites lyrics: Don’t be a drag just be a queen. The lyrics are from the song Born this Way. I went to the starbucks website and searched Born this Way. The first search result was a blog about Lady Gaga. At the end of the blog there was a small thumbnail of the first clue card. Click it- You win! Fill out the info and your prize will be sent to you soon. SRCH = SEARCH

so you didnt even shazam anything? when i saw the shazam logo on gaga’s hand in the video, i shazamed ‘born this way’ and the SRCH ad at the bottom said “to find your next clue find the right lyrics. @SRCH” and then i got lost. in the terms and conditions, it says that round 1 will hve 4 clues, so it seems as though i only made it to clue 2, and you found a shortcut.

I don’t have a like or dislike of Gaga, but really… it’s just a song and she is doing what she gets paid to do! And the song I am sure is no worse than Madonna’s like a prayer…. Ugh, people do some research. Lady Gaga performs satanic rituals because she is a *** slave for the illuminati. That is why she is so huge around the world. She was so desperate for fame that she would do anything. She herself said these things in an interview. She is corrupt & blinded by fame & fortune. just google lady gaga interview illuminati, there you’ll find a bunch of stuff on your beloved satanic worshipper. ps.starbucks is delicious

Ms. Gaga went to Catholic school. It’s only natural for her to turn to the Bible for guidance and inspiration. How is this anti-Christian? In “Judas” she is saying she is human and she makes mistakes by loving the wrong guy. For this we should boycott Starbucks? God gave you a brain. Use it.

Gaga stands for and supports what she thinks is love. Many of the “Christians” on here simply have a different idea of what love is and how you show it. Many “Christians” are hypocritical yes, because they don’t live like Christ. But why is it that the ONE thing which is intolerable in today’s liberal society is Christianity? Please don’t look at one person who claims to be a “Christian” and judge everybody by them. Look at the Bible for what Christi

I’m not judging Starbucks, just choosing to take my business elsewhere. Most of you act as if you have never taken a stand for something you believe in. Maybe you haven’t which can be seen by the shallowness of your posts. I really get a kick from the remarks pertaining to Starbucks not caring about one customer walking away. Great one! That is the type of business that I like to give my $5 to everyday; the type of busniess that doesn’t care. (“sarcasim”) Until tomorrow.

LOTS of good times at Alger, this was 2nd grade as best as I can recall & figure..that’s ME, BACK ROW 2nd TO LEFT (dark blue). Next to me on the right in red shirt…I’m wondering if it is Colin Piers. Next to red shirt is Kevin Dalson & Mike Waalkes . I remember the name Amy Anton & think she’s one of those in the right towards the front (maybe red shirt), next to red shirt on left is that Kerry? I think that’s Amy Hornung front row , two to the right of Ms Edmunds (red & blue). I also remember the gal 2nd from right, front row (green)... but cant remember her name.

MY ALGER ELEMENTARY PRE-SCHOOL CLASS PICTURE, 1971-72,
GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN
Above Mr. Clements on the very left end is Greg Heynen, who also attended our church. Heynens were great friends of our family for many years, but I haven’t heard from them in ages. To the right of Mr. Clements is Dave Engelhard (blue shirt), and at the very end of the same row
I’m guessing is Mike Waalkes (also blue)
IN the ABOVE A FEW I RECOGNIZE, OF COURSE MYSELF (Top, 2nd to LEFT), ALSO BOTTOM, 2ND to RIGHT MAY BE RICK BYLE . I didn’t even realize he was in my pre-school class, but it sure looks like him. And definitely to the right of Rick is Sara Gezon. Both Rick & Sara must have immediately gone to Seymour after pre-school at Alger, but I stayed at Alger thru 4th grade. (Rick died in a snowmobile accident a few years ago)
In this little section the two faces I recognize are Vicky Vandenbosch (bottom left) and Kevin “Gubby” Dalson (bottom right). Vicky later married Dave Tuuk. Kevin lived at the other end of our street (Griswold) .
